Hello - nice to see you again - there are 100 of you here now! Thank you for taking an interest in these logs of my creative practice!
This week I’ve been busy just existing, so creating a new piece of art everyday (like I have been in the habit of doing for the last couple of weeks) wasn’t feasible. Instead, I found myself gravitating towards injecting a little creativity into my everyday.
Like these plants I potted to brighten up our patio:
Or the pleasure I experienced in wearing this outfit for a trip to the pub:
Or the way I enjoyed a cup of coffee and cake whilst writing this week’s essay for
:Or this snack platter I put together whilst Andrew and I watched the tennis together:
Or this video diary of a day in the life of my dog cockapoo Alfie:
Or the joy in using my typewriter and the letter stamp I designed to write a letter to my granny:
Or the elation of booking last-minute tickets to see Aurora play her new album in London:
Instead of framing my lack of art-making this week as a failure, I frame it as an opportunity to create the ordinary. Creativity can be infused into everything we do; we don’t have to wait for the perfect conditions to express it.
Invitation for reflection: what creativity amidst the ordinary have you experienced this week?
This is such a beautiful perspective shift. We have to remember that as creatives, rest is productive!
Not just sitting around, but rather *active* rest. Doing things that bring you joy in the name of resetting & recharging the creative juices!
Earlier this morning, I spent some time creating a sketch kit for my friend.
